Norris McLaughlin, P.A. Represents P&R Fasteners in 254.8 KW Solar Installation Deal

Bridgewater, NJ (September 8, 2011) – The Bridgewater-based law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A., represented long-time firm client P&R Fasteners, a contract manufacturer of specialty metal products for a variety of industries, in a deal with Solis Partners, a leading developer and integrator of commercial solar power systems, for the installation of a 254.8 KW rooftop solar installation at its corporate headquarters in the Somerset section of Franklin Township, New Jersey. James H. Laskey, a Member of the firm, was lead counsel on the deal.

The rooftop solar PV system consists of 1,400 Solyndra panels that will generate approximately 295,000-kilowatt hours of electricity and eliminate more than 400,000 pounds of CO2 emissions annually. The panels are made up of lightweight glass cylinders that have 360-degree photovoltaic surfaces, capturing direct sunlight from above, diffused sunlight from the sides, and reflected sunlight from the roof. The system was integrated with a reflective white “cool” roof, which enhances the efficiency of the building envelope from an energy conservation perspective, saving on air conditioning expenses during the summer months, and increases the amount of solar production harvest.

The Solar Energy Group is a cross-disciplinary group actively involved in all aspects of solar energy, which includes attorneys from the environmental, utility, real estate and land use, construction, business, taxation, insurance, litigation, and intellectual property practice areas. The Group focuses on issues pertaining to solar technology, manufacturing, financing, installation, and operations.

A resident of Montgomery Township, Laskey concentrates his practice in transactional matters and in administrative and government regulatory law, including public utility, antitrust, health care, and telecommunications issues. He regularly represents clients before state and federal administrative agencies, particularly the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities. Laskey is also a registered legislative agent for New Jersey legislative activities. He has substantial experience in corporate transactions, in terms both of negotiation and drafting of agreements and antitrust analysis and premerger notification under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act. Laskey also regularly handles municipal franchising and zoning matters where the application involves specialized technologies and equipment.

Laskey was Chair of the Public Utility Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association from 1997-1998. Currently, he is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association (Public Utility Law Section), American Bar Association (Antitrust and Public Utility, Communications and Transportation Law Sections), and Federal Communications Bar Association. Laskey appears in the Communications Law and Energy Law sections of The Best Lawyers In America; and the Utilities and Business/Corporate sections of New Jersey Super Lawyers. He earned his B.S. from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his J.D. from Yale University.
