Bridgewater, NJ (November 15, 2011) – Norris McLaughlin, P.A., in cooperation with the DAK Group, will present a breakfast workshop, “Maximizing Value from Your Biggest Asset,” on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, from 7:30 to 9:30 am, at its Bridgewater office. The experienced financial and legal industry professionals presenting this workshop are Alan Scharfstein, President of the DAK Group, and John Vanarthos, a Member of Norris McLaughlin, P.A. and its Business Law Group.

This workshop is intended for owners, presidents/chief executive officers and chief financial officers of middle market companies considering exiting strategies, as well as certified public accountants attending with their clients. The interactive discussion will provide a brief overview of the current environment for exit transactions, offer a perspective on industry-specific trends, and illustrate the pros and cons of strategic versus financial buyers. Presenters will talk about key elements to consider in gaining the maximum value possible from the sale of the enterprise. Advisors will share best practices, case studies, and lessons learned. Vanarthos, a resident of Highland Park, has devoted his practice to helping companies, both large and small, with their business legal needs.

As a business lawyer, Vanarthos regularly represents and counsels the firm’s corporate clients in a wide range of commercial transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, corporate partnerships and other strategic alliances. He has substantial industry-specific experience, including pharmaceutical, medical device manufacturing, chemical, information technology and health care, among others. He also advises a number of high-tech companies in the areas of technology licensing, information management and product development.

Vanarthos serves as counsel for the United States operations of a number of foreign-based corporations, where he is responsible for all legal matters in the U.S. including general corporate advice, contract and tax matters, litigation management and employee relations.

Over the years, Vanarthos has represented a number of individual entrepreneurs and startup companies, strategically guiding them from idea conception to exit strategy and solving their legal problems along the way.

As Chairman of the firm’s Corporate Law Department, Vanarthos is responsible for staffing corporate matters to maximize efficiencies for the client, which includes identifying the proper level of expertise for each matter. Therefore, Vanarthos takes pride in fully understanding the goals and needs of each of the firm’s corporate clients, as well as ensuring exceptional client service. He is a frequent speaker and author on a wide range of corporate law topics that are relevant to the firm’s clients.

Vanarthos earned his J.D. from Rutgers School of Law – Newark in 1987 and his B.A. from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, in 1979.
