The New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law is a cooperative effort of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the state and federal judiciaries and the state’s three law schools – Seton Hall, Rutgers-Camden and Rutgers-Newark. The Commission seeks to encourage the spirit of professionalism and commitment to positive values among lawyers and judges through educational programs and other initiatives. Trial Attorneys of New Jersey is an organization of approximately 800 members consisting of both plaintiff and defense attorneys from the civil and criminal bars and is dedicated to promoting the interests of the public at large, the interest of the litigants involved in civil and criminal cases, and the interests of the bench and bar.

Sponzilli was presented with the Client Protection Award from the New Jersey Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection in December 1999. Sponzilli is a past president of the C. Willard Heckel Inn of Court and the Rutgers-Newark Law School Alumni Association and a Trustee of the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey. He has been on the faculty of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy for 12 years and, for the past four years, has been one of only two non-government faculty members in the New Jersey Attorney General’s Trial Advocacy Institute. Sponzilli is also a state certified mediator and federal arbitrator.
