Allentown, PA (March 3, 2011) – Matthew R. Sorrentino, Member of Tallman, Hudders & Sorrentino, the Pennsylvania office of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., was recently appointed to the Board of Governors for the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation. He will serve a three-year term.
The Lehigh Valley Community Foundation (LVCF) was established in 1967, as the Bethlehem Area Foundation. The Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization with headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Community foundations are permanent legal entities dedicated to community betterment through private philanthropy. The LVCF is one of more than 600 community foundations in the United States, currently managing an aggregate of more than $50 billion in charitable funds. For many years the fastest growing form of philanthropy in the nation, community foundations have these primary characteristics: legal permanence, flexibility, service to a defined geographical area, governance by a volunteer board and trustworthy financial management.
“The funds distributed by this organization help to maintain the growth of our local communities. I am honored to serve on the Board and hope to guide the Foundation to continue its positive impact on the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas,” says Sorrentino.
Sorrentino focuses his practice on health care, business law, and real estate law. In addition to being a member of the firm’s Management Committee, Matt currently serves as Lehigh County Solicitor, managing a staff of 18 full- and part-time staff attorneys for the County.
Sorrentino has served as lead counsel in numerous real estate and commercial acquisition transactions involving institutional health care providers. He has led the development and implementation of the Lehigh Valley’s major health care joint ventures including MRI centers, ambulatory surgical centers and several medical office buildings.
Early in his career, Sorrentino was lead defense counsel for various municipalities handling several seminal cases before the appellate courts in the development of Pennsylvania’s Municipal Subdivision Tort Claims Act.
Sorrentino serves as general counsel to Lehigh Valley Health Network, the region’s largest health care provider and employer. He also serves as general counsel to: Health Network Laboratories, a regional clinical laboratory with annual revenue in excess of $100 million; Lehigh Valley Physician Group, a multi-specialty, nonprofit physician practice with in excess of 500 physicians; and Anchor Health Properties, LLC, a national developer of innovative facilities dedicated to health and wellness. Sorrentino and his wife currently serve as Co-Chairs of the President’s Society of Lehigh Valley Health Network.
Sorrentino has been selected as one of the Pennsylvania Super Lawyers for 2010 in the Health Care section, an honor he has received for the past five years.
He earned his J.D. from Villanova University and his A.B. from Muhlenberg College.
