Allentown, PA (August 2, 2010) – Richard B. Somach, a Member of Tallman Hudders & Sorrentino, the Pennsylvania office of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., presented a program focused on the current state of the law regarding License to Carry Concealed Weapons in Pennsylvania and the need for legislation to amend the Sheriff’s Fee Act.The presentation was offered for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit to the Council of Sheriff’s Solicitors on Friday, July 30, 2010, as a part of the annual Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Association meeting. The presentation was hosted by the Delaware County Sheriff at the Inn at Chester Springs in Exton, PA.
“Continuing education is important to a practicing legal professional. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with my fellow colleagues and learning from them. The issues I focused on are hot topics at the moment and drew a lot of interest from the audience comprised of solicitors from all across the state,” said Somach, who serves as Assistant Lehigh County Solicitor, advising the Sheriff’s Office, the Tax Assessment Office and the Tax Claim Bureau.
The Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Association is dedicated to preserving the time honored Office of Sheriff in Pennsylvania. The Association is the information source for the Sheriffs of Pennsylvania and is vigilant to protect and fight for Pennsylvania Sheriffs’ rights to perform their sworn duty to protect and serve all citizens of Pennsylvania, through legislation and the judicial system. This association is dedicated to assisting sixty-seven County Sheriffs in acquiring the education and training required for law enforcement officers.
Somach focuses his practice on real estate, commercial law, and creditors’ remedies, representing real estate development companies, shopping centers, and local banks. In the banking area, Somach assists clients with their transactional, litigation, and operational needs, and has extensive experience handling collections, foreclosures and complex commercial workouts. Somach has represented real estate owners, developers and investors in a broad range of real estate transactions, including zoning matters, residential subdivisions and shopping center development.
As a licensed title insurance agent, Somach manages ABE Settlement Services, a title insurance and settlement company to creatively serve client needs. He currently serves as legal counsel to the Lehigh Valley Association of REALTORS®.
Somach serves as Assistant Lehigh County Solicitor, advising the Sheriff’s Office, the Tax Assessment Office and the Tax Claim Bureau and frequently writes and lectures on real estate matters, sheriff’s sales and real estate tax sales. He moderated “Sheriff’s Sales in Pennsylvania” previously and authored “Sheriff’s Sales and Real Estate Tax Sales” for A Day on Real Estate, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute (PBI). Previously, he has presented lectures on mortgage foreclosures, “Issues in Commercial Mortgage Foreclosure” and “Issues in Residential Mortgage Foreclosure” for PBI and has lectured a the annual Real Estate Institute Program.
Active in many community organizations, Somach was a past president of the Salisbury Township School Board. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Lehigh County Bar Association, where he served as President in 1992.
Somach earned his J.D. in 1974 from Hofstra University and his B.A., with honors, from Lehigh University in 1971.
