Sandra Jarva Weiss Speaks on Health Care Reform at Lafayette College
Allentown, PA (April 11, 2011) – Sandra Jarva Weiss, a Member of Tallman, Hudders & Sorrentino, the Pennsylvania office of Norris McLaughlin, P.A., spoke at Lafayette College on April 7, 2011 to the “Industry, Strategy and Policy” class that is a part of the Policy Studies Department taught by W. Mark Crain, a William E. Simon Professor of Political Economy and Chair of the department.The course emphasizes practical applications that lie at the intersection of business and policy, the role of government in each particular business sector and the challenges facing each sector.
“I taught the healthcare industry portion of this course. The focus of my presentation was on the new healthcare reform legislation Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 and how this will affect the delivery of healthcare in the United States as well as the regulatory environment in which healthcare is delivered,” explained Jarva Weiss.
Jarva Weiss has been practicing health care law for more than 20 years, and as Chair of the Pennsylvania Office’s Health Care Group, has extensive experience in all areas of health care regulation. She has designed numerous compliance programs and counsels clients on compliance with the Anti-Kickback Statute and the Stark Statute. She has counseled clients on federal and state patient privacy laws and Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement requirements. Jarva Weiss has extensive practical experience from having served as in-house counsel for a large teaching hospital system.
Her expertise includes mergers and acquisitions, strategic affiliations of health and health-related businesses, regulatory compliance, and developing corporate compliance plans for health care entities. Jarva Weiss also assists clients in the ongoing education and training of their employees in compliance with applicable health care regulations. She has experience with structuring the development of entities such as imaging centers and ambulatory surgical centers. She has handled physician contracts, employment agreements, medical staff grievance proceedings, disciplinary proceedings, and termination proceedings. Jarva Weiss is well versed in HIPAA privacy compliance, compliance with Joint Commission standards, managed care contracting for hospitals and medical providers, physician hospital organization contracts, and corporate work for health care institutions, such as lease and supply agreements.
Her clients include hospitals, physician groups, health care providers, medical device and equipment companies, PHOs, management service organizations, foundations, rehabilitation centers, and pharmaceutical companies.
Jarva Weiss serves on the boards of Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network, the State Theatre Center for the Arts, and the Council of Lafayette Women.
Jarva Weiss earned her J.D. in 1983 and her B.A. in 1980 from George Washington University.
