Somerset Valley Y Thanks Norris McLaughlin, P.A.for Many Years of Providing Camp Scholarships

Bridgewater, NJ (August 17, 2012) – A group of young campers from the Somerville YMCA camp program, along with Somerset Valley Y CEO Paul Kieltyka, Branch Executive Sarah Nathans, and Somerville Y Youth and Family Director Dana Scarantino, visited Bridgewater-based law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A.and Marcus, P.A., to thank the firm for its long-standing support of the YMCA’s camp program and to demonstrate the impact of the scholarships. The children presented cards to firm members Patrick T. Collins, Alison L. Galer, and Jesse P. Nash, who are current or former Y board members. The campers also shared stories of how important camp is to them.

In memory of Thomas McLaughlin, a long-time Y member and founding partner of Norris McLaughlin, P.A.and Marcus, the firm established an endowment fund in 2001 to provide scholarships to community children who could not afford to attend Y camp. In addition to contributing to the fund, several of the firm’s partners and associates volunteer their time by serving on the YMCA Board of Directors.

“We wanted to recognize and thank Norris McLaughlin, P.A.and Marcus for making it possible to provide assistance to so many of our campers over the years,” said Kieltyka.

“I believe this endowment is having the impact that Tom envisioned. It opens the door for all children to come to our camps, where they can develop their skills in a safe and nurturing environment, have fun, and make lasting friendships and memories.”

“We are committed to ensuring all children enjoy the opportunity to grow with the Y, where they can develop strong minds, bodies and spirits,” said Nash. “We are pleased the Y has recognized our firm’s late founding partner, Tom McLaughlin, and his enduring legacy.”

At the Somerset Valley Y’s branches in Bridgewater, Hillsborough and Somerset, there are still openings for summer camp through August 30. Y day camps give young people an experience that can last a lifetime and inspire them to continue an involvement with the Y for years to come.
