The Somerville law firm of Norris McLaughlin, P.A. is pleased to announce that Stuart J. Freedman, a member of firm, has been selected for inclusion in the 30th Anniversary Edition of Marquis’ Who’s Who in American Law. Freedman has been selected for past editions, including the first edition in 1977.
For more than 100 years, Who’s Who in America has provided accurate, concise biographies of notable Americans. That was the mission of founder, Albert Nelson Marquis, who selected 8,602 distinguished people for the first edition in 1899. Today, the Marquis Who’s Who family of directories has grown to include the biographies of millions of leaders and achievers from around the world and from every significant field of endeavor. Corporate executives, journalists, personnel recruiters, librarians, researchers, students, and many others consult these information databases for in-depth information they can use with confidence.
A resident of North Caldwell, Freedman has substantial experience in both private practice and as in-house counsel. He practices in a variety of areas within the firm, including trade regulation, advertising, professional liability, insurance, internet law, distribution, publishing and litigation management. With more than 22 years experience in the corporate world as in-house counsel, he is well-versed in recognizing the needs and concerns of businesses, especially those involved in the production, distribution and/or sales of consumer goods and services.
Freedman has served as chief legal officer of three major U.S. corporations involved in consumer goods, insurance, and distribution. He served as general counsel to Sedgwick, Inc., the nation’s third largest insurance broker, for five years. In addition, he has written and lectured extensively on trade regulation, and the management of a corporation’s legal affairs and its internal law department, and has assisted in the start-up and management of a number of in-house legal departments.
In the area of corporate law, he has conducted shareholder meetings and has reviewed press releases, earning reports, and other disclosure requirements of companies belonging to the New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange, and NASDAQ. In addition, he has served as President of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries (New York Region).
Freedman earned his J.D., cum laude, from Columbia University in 1965 and his B.A., cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Rutgers University in 1962. He is a member of the New Jersey State and American Bar Associations, Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association and the General Counsel Group, American Society of Corporate Secretaries, and National Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association.
