Stuart J. Freedman Named President of Rutgers College Class of 1962

The Somerville law firm Norris McLaughlin, P.A. is pleased to announce that Stuart J. Freedman, a member of firm, has been named President of Rutgers College Class of 1962.

Rutgers College Class of 1962 is a class alumni chapter of the Rutgers Alumni Association (“RAA”). The Class of 1962 will hold its 50th Reunion in 2012. The mission and purpose of the RAA is to form lifelong bonds among Rutgers University and its alumni around the world, in order to enhance their allegiance to Rutgers University, provide a resource for their further intellectual, personal and social development and advance the reputation, educational goals, programs and influence of Rutgers University. Freedman has substantial experience in both private practice and as in-house counsel. He practices in a variety of areas within the firm, including trade regulation, advertising, professional liability, insurance, internet law, distribution, publishing and litigation management. With more than 22 years experience in the corporate world as in-house counsel, he is well-versed in recognizing the needs and concerns of businesses, especially those involved in the production, distribution and/or sales of consumer goods and services.

Freedman has served as chief legal officer of three major U.S. corporations involved in consumer goods, insurance, and distribution. He served as general counsel of Sedgwick, Inc., then the nation’s third largest insurance broker, for five years. In addition, he has written and lectured extensively on trade regulation and the management of a corporation’s legal affairs and its internal law department, and has assisted in the start-up and management of a number of in-house legal departments.

In the area of corporate law, he has conducted shareholder meetings and has reviewed press releases, earning reports, and other disclosure requirements of companies belonging to the New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange, and NASDAQ. In addition, he has served as President of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries (New York Region) and the New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association.

Freedman earned his J.D., cum laude, from Columbia University in 1965 and his B.A., cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Rutgers University in 1962. He is a member of the New Jersey State and American Bar Associations, the New Jersey General Counsel Group, American Society of Corporate Secretaries, and National Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association.
