Steven A. Karg concentrates his practice on commercial litigation with an emphasis on products, consumer, and class action liability defense. Steve leads the firm’s Products and Consumer Liability Defense group. He has substantial experience defending manufacturers and/or distributors of a wide variety of products, such as pharmaceuticals, tobacco products, heavy industrial equipment, marine engines, chemicals and chemical processing systems, automobile lifts, pumps, tow tractors and trucks, buses, automotive accessories, trailers, forklifts, fasteners, soil remediation, and food preparation equipment. Steve has represented clients at both the trial and appellate level, including in New Jersey’s Multi-County Litigation (MCL) system. In addition to direct representation of clients, Steve has been asked on many occasions to be New Jersey counsel for virtual law firms comprised of counsel around the country defending companies in nationwide products, consumer, and class litigations. He also counsels clients on topics such as liability prevention and product recalls.
Steve has co-authored the annual Gann Law Books publication, New Jersey Products Liability & Toxic Tort Law since 2016. He has presented about products liability and consumer fraud topics to various organizations, such as the New Jersey Corporate Counsel Association, New Jersey Defense Association, New Jersey Chapter of Risk and Insurance Management Society, New Jersey Chapter of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society, Northeast Pharmaceutical Attorneys, the ACC Small Law Practice Group, the American Law Institute – American Bar Association (joint meeting), and the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education. He was the defense-side co-moderator or speaker for NJICLE’s annual Multi-County Litigation (formerly Mass Tort) seminar for many years and has presented on topics involving class actions and mass torts. He has authored many articles on a number of products liability and consumer fraud topics.
Steve has been selected for inclusion in the Class Action/Mass Tort section of New Jersey Super Lawyers®. Only five percent of New Jersey attorneys are given this honor. Steve was also listed in the Product Liability Litigation – Defendants section of Best Lawyers. Steve received Martindale-Hubbell’s AV Preeminent (Judicial Edition) rating, which is the highest lawyer rating that serves as an objective indicator of the lawyer’s high ethical standards, legal knowledge, and analytical capabilities.
Prior to law school and joining Norris McLaughlin, P.A., Steve had an engineering career and worked for Colgate-Palmolive Company and then Purolator Courier Corporation.
